WHO WE WORK WITH

If any of this sounds familiar, we should talk.

You sold (or are selling) a business

and nobody's walked you through what it means for your taxes

Your investments and your taxes live in two different places

No one is looking at your accounts and your tax return together.

You built your own portfolio

(even with help from a robo or an AI tool) and aren't sure it's actually tax-aware

WHY MAG CAP

It's not what you earn.
It's what you keep.

After-Tax Focus

We start with what taxes take off the top, then build from there.

Bond Market Access

Jack started on the sell side at UBS and still trades bonds directly. We shop multiple brokers for your price.

Private Markets

Independence means access to private credit, private equity, and private real estate for eligible investors.

Your CPA in the loop.

You'll know what we're doing and why, and we work with your CPA when it helps.

HOW WE WORK

Trust is built slowly. So we start slowly.

1

A conversation first

We ask about your situation before we recommend anything.

2

Investments and taxes, together.

We review both before we suggest a change.

3

You see the reasoning.

Every recommendation comes with the why, and your CPA is welcome in the room.

 Jack Heidelberg

Wealth Advisor, CFA, EA

Jack started in fixed income at UBS, covered large fund managers on the municipal bond desk, and still trades bonds directly today. He's spent 4 years in wealth management, after deciding he wanted to work for clients directly as an independent advisor. Jack grew up in Jackson and moved his family back after years in Nashville and New York, drawn by community and a slower pace. He believes trust is built slowly, and that the smartest thing an advisor can say is “I don't know, let me find out.”

COMMON QUESTIONS

What clients ask before they start.

Is this only for high-net-worth clients?

No. We work with business owners, W-2 earners, and DIY investors who want a second set of eyes.

Can I keep my current advisor?

Yes. We do ask for statements from your other advisor and a clear view of what they manage. Without that, we can’t manage your money efficiently, and the two of us could end up holding the same investments.

What does this cost?

We only charge an assets under management fee. No commissions. The amount depends on the size and makeup of your assets. On the call we walk through the fee and the math for your situation, and you’ll see it in writing before you sign anything.

What is tax alpha?

Tax alpha is the extra return you keep by managing taxes well. Two portfolios can earn the same return on paper, and the one that’s managed with taxes in mind leaves more in your pocket. It comes from decisions like which account holds which investment, when gains get realized, and harvesting losses. A strategy still has to make sense before taxes. The tax savings are a bonus on top of a good plan, never the reason for it.

What is tax loss harvesting?

Tax loss harvesting means selling an investment that’s down to lock in the loss, then reinvesting in something similar so you stay invested. That loss can offset gains elsewhere, and up to $3,000 a year can offset ordinary income. Unused losses carry forward to future years. It works best when it’s planned early. If you expect a big gain, like selling a business, we can start banking losses a year or two ahead.

What products can offer tax advantages?

Several common ones:Municipal bonds, whose interest is generally free from federal income tax, and often from state tax if you live in the issuing state.Retirement accounts like 401(k)s, IRAs, and Roth IRAs.Health savings accounts (HSAs).529 plans for education savings.Tax-managed portfolios that harvest losses inside the account. For a concentrated stock position, a 351 exchange lets you diversify while deferring the tax, much like a 1031 exchange does for real estate.Which of these fit depends on your income, your goals, and what you already own. That’s what the first call is for.
